Permeable concrete provides a durable, practical surface designed to allow rainwater to filter through its porous structure, helping reduce surface runoff and improve stormwater management.

Our Services

Overview

Overview

Permeable concrete is an innovative and practical solution that combines the strength and functionality of concrete with improved stormwater management. At Planet Concrete, we install permeable concrete surfaces throughout Auckland for driveways, pathways, parking areas and other outdoor applications where drainage and surface water management are important considerations.

Unlike conventional concrete, permeable concrete contains interconnected voids that allow rainwater to pass through the surface and into the specially prepared base below. This helps reduce surface runoff and water pooling while allowing stormwater to temporarily store within the underlying aggregate layers before infiltrating into the ground or being directed to an appropriate drainage system.

Why Permeable Concrete

Permeable concrete allows rainwater to pass through the surface and into the underlying drainage layers, helping reduce surface runoff and improve stormwater management. It also provides a durable, functional surface suitable for driveways, pathways and parking areas while supporting more sustainable water management.

Rainwater management

Permeable concrete helps manage rainwater by allowing it to pass through the surface into the underlying drainage layers, reducing surface runoff and water pooling.

Colour options

Permeable concrete is available in a range of colour options, allowing the surface to complement your property’s architecture, landscaping and overall design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our concrete services, process, and timelines.

How long does a concrete driveway last?

A professionally designed and installed concrete driveway can typically last 25–30 years or more with proper construction and regular maintenance. Its lifespan depends on factors such as ground preparation, concrete strength, reinforcement, drainage, traffic loads and ongoing maintenance, including sealing where appropriate.

How long does concrete take to cure?

Concrete begins to harden within the first 24–48 hours, allowing light foot traffic in most cases. However, it continues to gain strength over time, with full curing typically taking around 28 days. During this period, we recommend following our aftercare guidance to ensure the best long-term performance and durability.

Can you replace my existing driveway or patio?

Yes. We can remove and replace existing concrete driveways, patios and paths, including the necessary excavation, site preparation, formwork and new concrete installation. We’ll assess the existing area, identify any underlying issues and recommend the most suitable solution to provide a durable, high-quality finish.

Do you provide excavation and site preparation?

Yes. We provide comprehensive excavation and site preparation as part of our concrete services, including site clearing, excavation, levelling, basecourse placement and compaction. We can also coordinate formwork, reinforcement and drainage requirements to ensure the site is properly prepared and ready for concrete placement.

What concrete finishes do you offer?

We offer a wide range of concrete finishes to suit different styles, applications and budgets, including plain concrete, exposed aggregate, coloured and cut concrete, stamped concrete and designer decorative finishes. We also provide sealed concrete and paver solutions, with options to customise colours, textures and patterns to complement your property.

Can I customise the colour or texture of my concrete?

Yes. We offer a wide range of colours, textures, patterns and finishes, including exposed aggregate, coloured, stamped and decorative concrete. We can work with you to select a finish that complements your property, landscaping and overall design while meeting the practical requirements of the project.

How long does installation take?

Installation time depends on the size, complexity and scope of the project, as well as site access and preparation requirements. Most residential concrete projects can be completed within 1-2 weeks, while larger or more complex projects may take longer. We’ll provide a clear timeframe before work begins and keep you informed throughout the project.

Is concrete suitable for Auckland's weather?

Yes. Properly designed and installed concrete is well suited to Auckland’s climate, providing a durable surface that can withstand regular rainfall, UV exposure and changing temperatures. Correct site preparation, drainage, concrete specification, reinforcement and finishing are important to ensure long-term performance, while sealing can provide additional protection for decorative concrete surfaces.

Can you build pathways, patios, and driveways together?

Yes. We can design and construct driveways, patios and pathways as part of one coordinated project, creating a consistent finish across your outdoor areas. Our team can manage the complete process from site preparation and formwork through to concrete placement and finishing, helping ensure each area works together seamlessly.
